Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1: Delhi / Gurugram
Namaste and welcome to Gurugram! Formerly known as Gurgaon, this lively tech hub on the edge of India’s capital, New Delhi, marks the exciting first stop on your The Vegan Routes’ A Conscious Culture Adventure. Your journey begins at 9:00 AM, diving into the energy of Delhi — a vast and evolving city where sleek highways and glass towers rise beside age-old temples, colorful bazaars, and narrow lanes buzzing with everyday life. This fascinating fusion of old and new sees cows, goats, rickshaws, and bicycles sharing roads with cars, trucks, and the world’s largest eco-friendly CNG bus network. With roots stretching back to the 6th century BCE, Delhi is more than a capital — it’s a living museum of culture and history. As we explore the city, we’ll visit Gandhi Smriti, the solemn site where Mahatma Gandhi spent his final days, offering a powerful insight into his peaceful fight for India’s freedom. In the evening, we’ll gather for our Orientation Meeting — a relaxed session to connect with your fellow travelers and tour leaders, and introduce the rich cultures, diversity, and history of Rajasthan. We’ll wrap up the day with a flavorful vegan welcome dinner, your first taste of the region’s plant-based culinary delights.
Highlights of the Day:
Today, we journey off the tourist trail and into the rural heartlands of Rajasthan, arriving in the rustic yet captivating town of Kishangarh. Once part of the princely states of Rajputana (pre-independence Rajasthan), Kishangarh offers a quiet charm rooted in history, culture, and royal legacy. Our route winds through arid backroads and desert plains before reaching our stunning retreat for the next two nights — the romantic Phool Mahal Palace. Built in 1870 as the royal monsoon residence, Phool Mahal sits peacefully beside the serene Gundalao Lake, just outside the ancient Kishangarh Fort. The lake’s surrounding fields are home to peacocks, wild ducks, herons, and graceful kites gliding across the sky — making the palace setting as scenic as it is historic. We’ll explore the towering fortifications of Kishangarh, with their massive walls and elephant-proof gates — reminders of the kingdom’s warrior past. Yet this region was also a flourishing center of art and culture. The Maharajas here were great patrons of the arts, and their legacy lives on in the delicate miniature paintings found in local palaces and temples. We’ll delve into this tradition, learning about symbolism, techniques, and storytelling that have been passed down through generations. Our time in Kishangarh also includes a visit to a girls’ school, where we’ll share stationery and books, supporting local education efforts. We’ll stop by nearby Roopangarh Fort, once ruled by the same royal lineage, and experience its contrasting character. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a blend of Rajasthani and Indo-Chinese vegan cuisine, wander the vibrant bazaars and colorful alleyways, visit centuries-old temples, and immerse ourselves in the rhythm of this ancient town founded in 1611 AD.
Highlights of the Day:
After a hearty breakfast, we depart for Jaipur, the vibrant capital of Rajasthan, famously known as the “Pink City” for its rose-hued old city walls. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is a captivating blend of royal heritage, grand architecture, and rich cultural traditions. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel for a two-night stay, unwind, and enjoy a freshly prepared vegan lunch. In the late afternoon, we visit the breath-taking Amber Fort, an impressive 16th-century hilltop fortress overlooking Maota Lake, known for its blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture, intricate frescoes, and mirror-studded halls that echo stories of royal life and valor. Returning to our hotel in the evening, we’ll enjoy a lively folk dance performance showcasing the spirit of Rajasthan, followed by drinks and a vegan dinner under the stars. The following morning, after breakfast, we begin our full-day exploration with a stop at the elegant Birla Temple, carved from white marble and dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. We then visit Animal Aid Unlimited’s Help in Suffering, a compassionate rescue and rehabilitation center, to learn about their important work and offer support. Lunch takes us to one of Jaipur’s well-loved vegetarian spots for a flavourful Indo-Chinese vegan meal. In the afternoon, we explore two of Jaipur’s most iconic landmarks — the Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO-listed observatory featuring enormous astronomical instruments, and the opulent City Palace, home to royal artifacts, exquisite courtyards, and centuries of regal history. In the evening, we return to the hotel to freshen up before heading out for a heart-warming vegan cooking class, where a friendly local family welcomes us into their home to share stories, traditional recipes, and a lovingly prepared home-cooked meal.
Highlights of the Day:
We say goodbye to Jaipur and journey onward to Bharatpur, with a fascinating stop en route at Abhaneri to visit the famous Chand Baori, one of the largest and most intricate stepwells in India. After exploring this stunning example of ancient engineering, we continue to Bharatpur, where we’ll check into our hotel for a two-night stay. Following a freshly prepared vegan lunch and some time to freshen up, we head out to the peaceful Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with birdlife. We’ll explore the sanctuary by bicycle, but for those who prefer a more relaxed ride, e-rickshaws are available. The next morning, we set off early for the breathtaking Taj Mahal in Agra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a timeless symbol of love. After taking in its marble beauty and rich history, we’ll enjoy a flavorful South Indian vegan lunch. On our way back to Bharatpur, we make a stop at the historic city of Fatehpur Sikri, once the grand capital of the Mughal Empire, known for its stunning red sandstone architecture. Back at the hotel in the evening, we gather for a heartfelt farewell celebration with drinks and a final dinner together, reminiscing about the memories and experiences shared throughout this incredible journey.
Highlights of the Day:
After breakfast, we’ll make our way back to Delhi/Gurugram, where our enriching journey concludes. Upon arrival at our hotel, we’ll enjoy one final vegan lunch together, sharing stories, smiles, and heartfelt farewells. Bahut, bahut dhanyavaad (thank you very much) for traveling with The Vegan Routes — it’s been a joy to explore, connect, and create memories with you. Wishing you safe travels and continued compassion on all your future adventures.
